Joe Birkenback is President and Founder of DWS Energy. Joe has more than 41 years’ experience within the electrical industry. He grew up in Dallas and Rockwall, Texas, and got his start in the business immediately after graduating from Rockwall High School. He earned his Journeyman’s license in 1984 and by 1989 was installing industrial controls for companies such as Barber-Coleman Company, Invensys Limited, Control Innovations Inc, and Siemens.
Since founding DWS in 2014, Joe has grown the company to be a Texas leader in industrial control solutions and renewable energy systems. Some of his proudest projects include control systems for the Rangers Stadium in Irving, Texas, and the University of Texas at Arlington. He also installed a smoke evacuation system in the Dart tunnel underneath Central Expressway in Dallas, which led to a win for air quality on our Texas highways.
As a controls and sales specialist, Joe is passionate about installing quality systems for his customers, and acts as a mentor to enable his employees’ advancement throughout their careers. He is excited about the growth of renewable energy and the evolution of building management systems to be ever more connected, mobile, and field operable.
In his free time, Joe likes to hit the road on his motorcycle and tour the country. One thing Joe would tell you about himself if given the chance is that he’s an expert angler and has fished at championship tournament level. The biggest fish he ever caught was a Flathead Catfish, weighing in at 98 pounds.
